Maria Santangelo is a Neapolitan brand established by Maria Santangelo in 1953. All Maria Santangelo shirts are produced in Italy. They feature single-needle stitching, fused and soft non-fused collars, removable collar stays, gussets. The number of hand passages varies; for example, the most expensive shirts feature up to 14 hand passages, while 2.0 line shirts don’t feature any hand-stitching. Possible hand passages: collar, armholes, buttons, buttonholes, side seams, shoulders, plackets, bar tacks, gussets, cuffs, label, hem. Sleeves are sewn at the end of the manufacturing process (probably not always). Buttons are made of mother-of-pearl (usually about 3 mm. thickness), they are shanked at least sometimes. Yokes are non-split.
Maria Santangelo shirts are offered in solid colours and classic patterns (checks and stripes – sometimes horizontal stripes). Shirts in fancy patterns are available too (only 2.0 line). The brand uses high quality 100% cotton, 100% linen and cotton + linen fabrics (sometimes by Albini, Italian-made, Egyptian cotton, Oeko-Tex Standard 100). Weaves: poplin, denim, chambray, end-on-end, jacquard. Colours: blue, lilac, white, black, mint, light pink, bordeaux, orange, etc. Collars: Kent, medium-spread, spread, cutaway, wing, button-down. Buttoned cuffs (rounded, mitred). Sizes: 14.5 – 17.5 in. (= 37 – 44 cm). Slim fit.
