New & Lingwood is an English menswear label established by Miss Elisabeth New and Mr Samuel Lingwood in 1865. The brand offers bespoke, made-to-measure and ready-to-wear shirts. Bespoke and made-to-measure shirts are made in the UK; ready-to-wear shirts are made outside the UK. New & Lingwood shirts feature thin troca (ready-to-wear) or mother-of-pearl (bespoke) buttons, single-needle stitching, gussets, non-fused collars and split yokes (cut not on the bias). The brand uses high quality 2-ply fabrics (100% cotton / sometimes 100% linen 1-ply). There is no hand-stitching. Sleeves are sewn on as usual.
The range of ready-to-wear shirts is wide. There are solid colour, checked, striped and Hawaiian shirts. Colours: pink, cream, white, turquoise, burgundy, navy, blue, pale blue, mid blue, olive, red, green, etc. Weaves: poplin, oxford. Barrel (rounded) and French cuffs. Collar shapes: extreme cutaway, button-down, spread, semi-spread, wing, band. Sizes: 14.5 – 19 in. (= 37 – 48 cm). Tailored (not very slim) and classic (quite loose) fits.
