There may have been a ton of celeb-filled Oscar parties over the weekend, but it was at photographer Tom Munro’s book party Saturday night that the stars really aligned. The photographer, whose subjects have included Dustin Hoffman and Leonardo DiCaprio, recently released his first book, filled with celebrity images and a forward written by friend and collaborator Madonna. Madge herself was there and chatted with Munro while sipping Moët Champagne....

In a solemn presentation held in a gilded salon, 15 masterpieces by the late Lee Alexander McQueen were presented Tuesday. Each one was hand cut on a dress form by the British designer, who committed suicide last month, and each one was more breathtaking than the next. The pieces were so full of religious iconography, including angels and virgins, that one imagines McQueen was having thoughts of death while he was creating them.  Read More →

You know the men at the Academy Awards were playing it sartorially safe when the biggest departure from the norm was Robert Downey Jr.'s choice of a turquoise bow tie to accessorize his midnight-blue tuxedo (both by Lanvin). The bolo ties, questionable facial hair choices and strange outfits that punctuated last year's red carpet were gone, and the traditional tuxedo reigned supreme. Early on, it looked like the narrow four-in-hand necktie...

Beloved in France since 1995 for her effortless Left Bank boho style (and relatively affordable prices, in line with Phillip Lim and Alexander Wang), designer Isabel Marant is generating buzz across the Atlantic in a big way. That's thanks in no small part to her cuffed and studded, cone-heeled boots from last season, which sparked waiting lists around the world, and a stampede of knockoffs. Now that Marant is set to open a New York store next...

Lanvin's Alber Elbaz is the auteur of the specific brand of imperfect glamour that has dominated clothing design over the last few years. Because of him, asymmetrical ruffles, organza and grosgrain ribbon trim and unfinished seams have taken over T-shirts, jackets and dresses at every chain store on the planet, including J. Crew and Ann Taylor. Not to mention what he has done for the costume jewelry industry with his ribbon-strung pearls. So...

Moving from the beach into downtown and making the 25th anniversary of the Independent Spirit Awards an evening affair made the blue carpet much more glam than in past years, and in this Rager's humble opinion, the quartet of starlets epitomized the takeaway look for the evening; fragile eggshell glamour with just the slightest hint of hardness peeking through. That would be (from left) Rosario Dawson in Stella McCartney, Carey Mulligan in...

In just his second season at the house, Nina Ricci designer Peter Copping is carving out a new niche for old-fashioned Parisian chic. It's not a look we've seen a lot of on the runway lately, and it had real charm. Key pieces included a ladylike wool pencil skirt, a tweed jacket with a defined waist, Liberty print blouses, a black bustier dress with lace and ribbon insets, and a red floral jacquard evening coat with a round collar. Silk...
